Christine E. Reinhard and Monica J. Lerma presented on the the topic titled, “Legal Hurdles In Building the Modern Work Family,” at the Schmoyer Reinhard Breakfast Briefing held Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
The presentation was a discussion on how employers are governed by an ever-increasing number of laws, regulations, rules and guidance when hiring employees in today’s modern workforce. During this breakfast briefing, they discussed those legal hurdles along with new and recent developments in the hiring context. In particular, they discussed new Texas laws applicable to hiring employers, the Department of Labor’s recently-issued federal contractor rules for hiring disabled individuals and veterans, the EEOC’s guidance on employee background checks, and Defense of Marriage Act considerations. As they explored these varied legal topics, they covered the entire hiring process, from application to the first day of work.
